Curriculum Core (20 credits)

Students begin by learning how businesses leverage data and are then introduced to the industry tools and applications in a thoughtfully-paced, approachable format.

Organizations are increasingly using data to transform their businesses, improve the efficacy of decisions, and achieve superior performance. The impact of business analytics is ubiquitous and far-reaching across many different business areas and, thus, is a critical skill for successful business professionals. Through a hands-on approach, this course introduces students to business analytics and analytical tools and, in the process, students will develop a practical understanding of how companies use data and analytics to solve real-world business problems across a variety of industries. (4 credits)

The essence of effective management is tied to the ability to anticipate and make strategic decisions about the future. This course explores how companies use predictive analytics to identify solutions to business problems, uncover new insights and opportunities, and make better strategic decisions. Students are introduced to the process of identifying patterns and relationships in the data, creating analytical models, and empirically testing the validity of business hypotheses. The course uses extensive industry data, enabling learners to develop hands-on, applied data analytic competencies to support strategic managerial decision-making. (4 credits)

How to visualize data and tell a compelling story is a powerful means of communicating with key stakeholders. This course introduces students to the core design considerations and communication strategies behind the creation of captivating data visualizations. Using industry data and intuitive point-and-click tools, students learn to capture the key data analytic takeaways using baselines, scorecards, dashboards, and other widely used data summarization techniques. (4 credits)

The expanding access and usage of data brings to light the importance of ethical conduct in relation to business. This course equips students to understand important moral dilemmas of business analytics and artificial intelligence. It is the goal of this course to highlight some of the key data-governance, compliance and usage-related ethical considerations and to provide learners with an opportunity to carefully examine and reflect on those important matters. (4 credits)

This course will explore how businesses can gain a competitive advantage in the market by leveraging their unique value discipline and business competencies. Students will learn how to analyze and interpret historical and current data, make decisions using the data to improve business processes and ensure that the competitive business strategy is aligned with the organizational goals that drive success. (4 credits)
