With no work experience required and flexible study options — fully online or hybrid — you can complete your degree in 12 months full time or 16 months part time, with evening classes to fit your schedule.

Whether your undergraduate degree is in business or another field, our curriculum is designed to help you build essential skills with wide applicability, preparing you for a variety of professional roles while laying the foundation for future specialization.

Upon completing the program and acquiring one year of relevant work experience, you can progress to an MBA by adding 20 credits — or pursue another specialized business master’s degree with 28 additional credits. As a Double Warrior, you’ll also be eligible for a significant tuition discount of up to 25–33 percent.

Master of Science in Management Coursework


Merrimack’s 32-credit master’s in management serves as a bridge for pre- and early-career students, offering hands-on coursework that emphasizes core business skills.

Through projects, examinations, problem sets and other forms of assessment, students gain proficiency in advanced tools such as Excel and financial statement analysis. Tailored to each student’s unique needs, the program helps students identify their strengths and preferences, fostering their ability to make informed career choices.

Required Core (32 credits)

This course strengthens students’ ability to analyze data by building mastery of productivity tools commonly used by managers. Students develop skills for using computer-based technologies to locate, access, evaluate, manipulate, create, store and retrieve information to express ideas, perform sophisticated analysis of data and communicate information and results with others. Students learn how to build spreadsheet models to perform scenario analysis, analyze the impact of uncertainty and formalize trade-offs in the context of business decisions. Students integrate a variety of supporting materials to deliver a thorough business presentation. By the end of the course, students have developed an introductory view of business decision-making and are more adept at analyzing data and presenting results in a business context. Credits: 4

Mastering effective communication skills is an essential skill across all industries and levels of leadership. In this course, students explore key aspects of business communication, including written, verbal, non-verbal and digital forms. Through a blend of theoretical frameworks and practical applications, students learn to analyze messages, understand their purpose, learn how to read an audience and identify their communication style. Additionally, students develop strategies for structuring and styling communication, building persuasive arguments, and critically reviewing their work for tone, organizational flow and clarity. The course also provides opportunities for students to enhance their ability to deliver both formal and informal presentations, as well as written reports, all within the context of addressing real-world business challenges. Ultimately, this course is designed to equip students with the essential skills needed to convey ideas, information and strategies effectively to a variety of stakeholders, while also honing the interpersonal skills critical for success. This course provides students with a solid foundation in accounting and finance, focusing on the critical concepts and tools needed for effective decision-making. Students learn to interpret and analyze financial information to assess business performance, evaluate risks, and make informed strategic choices. Emphasizing practical application, the course prepares students to create and interpret financial statements, and to use financial data to drive organizational success and make sound business decisions in a variety of professional contexts. Credits: 4

In today’s business environment, the ability to make data-driven decisions is essential for organizational success. This course delves into the application of statistical and analytical techniques to make data-driven decisions in a business context. Students develop an in-depth understanding of the methodologies and tools used to both analyze and visualize data and apply those tools to solve real-world business problems. With a focus on practical application, this course equips students with the skills needed to transform data into actionable insights and prepares students to navigate the complexities of data-driven decision-making. Credits: 4

With the proliferation of internet activity and the ease of online access, individuals, companies and governments face an ever-increasing risk of the theft and misuse of their data. This course introduces students to the myriad ways in which private data can be captured and stored, building students’ awareness of cyber threats and data breaches, along with malware, ransomware, and other means by which cyber criminals access information for profit. The importance of strong IT general and application controls, good cyber hygiene, appropriate risk mitigation procedures, and adequate employee training are discussed. Methods for securing data are presented, including firewalls and intrusion-detection systems. Finally, students learn about evolving regulation and the role artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing may play in the future of cybersecurity. This course also focuses on the impact of AI on the digital ecosystem and delves into topics around generative AI. It explores the hierarchy of ethical and legal considerations around AI, identifies potential business opportunities around AI, and the impact AI has on cybersecurity as a whole. Credits: 4

Today’s organization makes it imperative that all functional areas of business have a basic understanding of the concepts and the foundations of marketing. Marketing is the business function that deals with the needs and wants of customers. The main objective in Concepts of Marketing is to acquire a clear understanding of the marketing function and the constant need to address changes in the business environment. Marketing is challenging, dynamic and creative and continues to play a key role in a firm’s strategy and direction making it important to decision-based management. Credits: 2

Leaders must address continuing challenges of change and organizational adaptation. This course provides students with practical skills and tools for planning, managing, evaluating and surviving large-scale organizational change with applications to emerging business issues, including knowledge management, “learning organizations” and network management. Credits: 2

This course focuses on how to generate novel and useful ideas and how to implement them, as well as how leaders facilitate these processes. Based on both psychological and sociological perspectives on management, the course explores the determinants of creativity and innovation at the individual, group, organizational, and inter-organizational levels of analysis. Students become familiar with current thinking in the field, and apply their knowledge and understanding to practical business situations and case studies. Credits: 2

Developing and implementing successful strategic innovations is a requirement for achieving competitive advantage in most markets. This case-based course addresses how organizations deploy innovation strategies to create new markets and compete in novel ways. Students learn how to analyze the external environment and assess the capabilities of an organization to craft innovation-based competitive strategies. The case studies discuss important strategic decisions for value creation and appropriation, value innovation, business model innovation and digital transformation in the context of industry evolution and competition. Credits: 4

Current undergraduates can jumpstart their graduate education by completing eight graduate credits during their undergraduate program. 

Both current and returning students qualify for the Double Warrior Scholarship, which provides substantial tuition discounts, including a 33 percent reduction for those returning within two terms following graduation and a 25 percent reduction for those who graduated earlier.
